Life had other plans.

I ended up in business. In rooms filled not with senators but with salesmen, strategists and creatives. And strangely—profoundly—what I found there was impact. Influence. Culture-shaping power. As a storyteller, as a brand-builder, as a strategist for CEOs—my reach became both wider and deeper than I could’ve imagined.

Recently, I’ve been studying Indra Nooyi, former CEO of PepsiCo. Immigrant. Visionary. Doer. When asked if she’d ever run for political office, she said:

“Politics by definition requires an incredible amount of consensus building, as opposed to getting to the right answer…I need to work on a project, get it done, and work on the the next.”

That hit me like a lightning bolt. Because while the political system spins in circles of gridlock and self-preservation, I’ve seen how business—ethical, human-centered business—can move fast, shape values, and uplift entire communities. And I’ve seen how storytelling can shift culture in a way no campaign slogan ever could.

And yet, despite all that, I’m shaken.

A video recently surfaced of a PhD student—on a legal F-1 visa—being taken in broad daylight by ICE. No uniforms. No identification. Just masked agents and a chilling silence. Her apparent “crime”? Protesting about Palestine.

A few days later, a content creator named Jack Jones (@quadzillahikes), a U.S. Army veteran, posted about the PhD student’s abduction. Drawing from his own family’s history with authoritarian regimes, he spoke out—boldly, publicly. The very next day, he received an email: his TSA PreCheck had been revoked.

Some might call it coincidence.

But I’m not so sure we can afford that luxury.

As Doris Kearns Goodwin warned, authoritarian regimes don’t rise because of brute force alone. They rise when the people are divided, distracted, and numbed into thinking, this could never happen here.

As a mother, this terrifies me. I want my family to grow up with freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, freedom of the press. These aren’t just ideals—they’re constitutional rights. First Amendment. Fourth. Fourteenth. These are not relics of another era. They’re the scaffolding of our democracy. But only if we keep reinforcing them.

And that begins with how we treat each other.

At the heart of authoritarianism lies a dangerous myth—that one person is more worthy, more intelligent, more human than another. From that seed, all other injustices grow: abuse, erasure, silencing, even death.

But here’s the thing: if that’s the root of darkness, then the antidote must be radical respect.

Respect across political lines. Respect across borders and beliefs. Respect for the humanity in every single person, no matter how inconvenient or different or “other” they may seem.

Because change doesn’t only happen in the halls of power. It happens in our homes. In our businesses. In the stories we tell and the dignity we offer.

In every revolution—French, American, Civil Rights—there were moments of chaos and fear. But also moments of courage. Of clarity. Of citizens realizing that if freedom is to survive, it must be protected by people, not just paper.

So here’s what I believe:

Yes, the path ahead is unsettling.
Yes, there are shadows gathering.

But if people of good heart, good vision, and deep integrity can band together, not just in the political space—creatives, business leaders, parents, teachers, neighbors—then there is no power on earth that can outlast us.

Because democracy doesn’t die in one swift blow.

It dies in the silence of good people.

And we can rekindle the fire of freedom again—if we speak, if we act, if we respect.

Lately, I’ve felt it myself. I’m on day 31 of sobriety, having completed Dry January, and the absence of an easy escape has forced me to sit with my emotions more than usual.

The news hits harder—an airplane crash in DC, the aftermath of the LA Fires and all the toxic debris now in our ocean, ICE raids targeting immigrants, and the ever-present worry of rising grocery prices in an unstable economy. Business is extra demanding right now, which adds an extra layer of stress. My 11-year-old son needs more attention and care as I navigate the looming uncertainty of his teenage years. On top of that, I’m helping my parents, who recently moved to Korea, with their belongings and my dad’s CPA work.

If I’m being honest, I’d love to check out right now. Give me a mimosa on an island for a month, and I’d happily disappear.

But that’s not an option, at least for now. So instead, I’ve learned how to recharge, refuel, and find my way back to myself—without burning out completely. Here are 8 ways I avoid full burnout.

1. Blue Days Are Healing Days—Embrace Them Fully

On some days, just opening your eyes, eating a meal, and breathing deeply is enough. I call these "Blue Days," and they’re essential for healing. When the weight of life feels suffocating, give yourself permission to do the bare minimum without guilt. Rest is not lazy—it’s necessary. With kids around, this might mean asking a partner, friend, or relative to babysit, or having a movie day at home, or an easy park outing. The key is finding the most relaxing way to get through a Blue Day.

2. Take a Mindful Walk and Watch the World Move

A 10-minute walk surrounded by nature can help ground the mind when life feels chaotic. For me, hiking has been a lifeline. One hike in particular, a 3-hour journey to a hidden waterfall, changed everything. The hike was challenging, but reaching the waterfall reminded me that strength isn’t just about endurance—it’s about trusting that the reward will come. That lesson helped me tackle a massive move last year involving eight rooms' worth of belongings. I handled it without breaking down, because the hike had already shown me that if I could just push through the physical demands, I'd meet something beautiful at the end of it all (and also work my butt out at the same time).

3. Weekly Rituals That Ground

When a little boost is needed, I recharge by building an uplifting vase of flowers at the start of the week. It’s a small ritual, but it creates a tone of calm and intention for the space and mind. Pairing that with healthy snacks or a new recipe, like chocolate-covered blueberry bars, brings simple joy. Grounding rituals—whether it’s cooking, reading, or making tea—serve as a reliable anchor.

4. Try a Mind Dump to Release Mental Overload

When thoughts feel tangled, I often think about Dumbledore's Pensive from Harry Potter. I release everything in bullet points onto an ongoing word doc journal. Once the chaos is on the sheet, I go back and fill in the details. This method allows for processing what’s weighing on me without getting overwhelmed by the sheer volume of thoughts. Sometimes, I even turn to AI (like ChatGPT or Claude) for help breaking down complex emotions. Sharing stress anonymously and receiving thoughtful writing prompts has been an unexpected but effective therapy tool. After 12 years of talk therapy (with therapists), there’s something comforting about always having a sounding board available with AI.

5. Move the Body Gently—No Pressure Workouts

Movement doesn’t have to be intense to be effective. A slow yoga session, a morning walk, or even dancing around the kitchen can help reconnect with the body and release tension.

6. Protect Peace by Unplugging and Tuning Into Inspiration

When the world feels overwhelming, intentional breaks from the news make a significant difference. Instead, time can be spent on online classes, light-hearted comedies, or books that offer an uplifting escape. Carrying the weight of the world is impossible when running on empty, so unplugging is necessary to refill that cup. Protecting peace allows for a return to the world with renewed energy and focus.

As an empath, constant exposure to bad news can be devastating. Long breaks from media consumption are sometimes essential to refocus on what is controllable—like volunteering locally or supporting causes directly.

7. Connect With Someone Who Recharges

Some connections replenish energy rather than drain it. Reaching out to a friend who listens without judgment or brings laughter can uplift the spirit. In my life, I have an ongoing daily WhatsApp chat with my BFF Erik. We’re like two 90-year-old grandmas chatting about anything and everything. We swear we’ll drop a podcast when we hit 90, so watch out. Our schedules are so different that exchanging voice messages lets us stay in sync without having to coordinate.

8. Give Permission to Feel the Hard Stuff

When burnout hits, suppressing difficult emotions can be tempting. But allowing space for crying, venting, or sitting with discomfort can be incredibly healing. Emotional release isn’t a sign of weakness—it’s honesty.

Final Thought: Keep Filling the Cup

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that burnout isn’t something fought once and conquered forever. It’s an ongoing dance, a delicate balancing act. Recognizing when the threshold is near and proactively refilling the cup before it hits empty is key. When that cup hits empty, it’s so much harder to get back up.

Sometimes that means canceling plans, saying no to commitments, or taking news breaks. Other times, it means going on a challenging hike or journaling through tangled thoughts. Rest and recharge aren’t luxuries—they’re survival tools.

Letting go of what can’t be controlled lightens the load. One small act of self-care at a time makes it easier to breathe again.

On my 27th birthday my old friend Jordan Avila asked me to join his band Wam Dingis. From then on I played with many more musical projects which fortified myself as a musician. I continued work as a Marketing Director at SOTA Imaging and then at some point started to feel like my best self. I realized, I can only show up for my son as the best parent if I step into my own full identity - If I can be the greatest version of myself, I can lead by example.

However the road to balance has been rocky, which is why I wish to share some tips. At times I threw myself into art so deeply I worried my parents and son’s father. At times I wore myself so thin I had mental breakdowns. And in other moments my business work suffered because I neglected projects.

Finding balance as a business owner, a creative, and parent often feels like an impossible juggling act. But balance doesn’t come from doing it all—it comes from doing what truly matters and learning how to lead yourself and others effectively.

Icons like Richard Branson and others who have achieved extraordinary success prove that prioritizing outlets for inspiration and purpose—not just work—can fuel creativity, drive, and fulfillment. They’ve built empires while maintaining strong connections with their families by surrounding themselves with great teams, delegating what they don’t need to carry, and making intentional time for personal passions and family life.

Here’s how you can do the same.

1. Build and Lead a Strong Team

One of the greatest lessons from leaders like Richard Branson is this: You can’t do it alone. Building the right team around you is critical for success. Delegation isn’t about handing off tasks—it’s about trusting others to take ownership so you can focus on your highest priorities.

Tips for Leadership and Delegation:

• Lead with trust: Great leaders empower others by giving them space to make decisions and grow. Trust your team to handle responsibilities without micromanaging.

• Communicate clearly: Be transparent about expectations, goals, and values so your team understands their role in the bigger picture.

• Delegate strategically: Focus on your strengths and delegate the tasks that drain your energy or fall outside your expertise.

Branson famously said, “Train people well enough so they can leave. Treat them well enough so they don’t want to.” That mindset builds loyalty, creativity, and collaboration.

Balance starts with taking care of yourself—inside and out. As a parent and leader, showing up for others begins with showing up for yourself. Prioritize both inner peace (mental clarity and emotional health) and outer peace (physical well-being).

• Inner Peace:

  • Start your day with meditation, journaling, or even 5 minutes of breathwork to process emotions and ground yourself. I start every day with a mind dump exercise of writing 3 pages - whatever comes out gets written down.

  • Explore therapy, coaching, or mindset tools to work through challenges and grow personally. If therapy isn’t financially accessible yet, try using ChatGPT or Claude for AI therapy. I had 12 years of talk therapy with a human and now love to confide in AI or bouncing ideas and working out personal concerns.

• Outer Peace:

  • To have the greatest mental clarity, emotional fortitude, and patience (especially when your child has a fit or breakdown), prioritize health with regular exercise, good nutrition, and quality sleep. All 3 are SO important.

  • Treat movement as self-care—whether that’s yoga, running, or a morning walk.

The calmer and healthier you feel, the better you can navigate the complexities of parenting and work.

3. Stay Inspired by Learning and Community

Leaders and creatives alike thrive on inspiration, and inspiration often comes from learning and connecting with others. Whether it’s through mentors, peers, or self-guided learning, prioritize time to expand your mind.

How to Stay Inspired:

• Surround yourself with good friends, mentors, and supportive community. Even a few deep, meaningful connections can ground and motivate you. If you can’t access direct mentors, look for virtual mentors—people whose wisdom is available through interviews, speeches, or online content.

• Seek out knowledge through podcasts, books, and courses. Platforms like Masterclass, Mindvalley, and OneCommune are excellent resources that I love.

Inspiration fuels drive, and drive helps you show up fully in all areas of life.

4. Fulfill Your Identity Beyond Parenthood

One of the hardest lessons I’ve learned as a parent is that when I lose sight of my own identity, I show up less fully as a parent. Mindless doom scrolling and even excessive shopping can be a dark and addictive habit trying to fill a void. While parenthood is deeply rewarding, it’s important to remember that your identity extends beyond being a parent. Stay-at-home parents often pour so much into their families that they forget to nurture their own passions, interests, and dreams. Reclaiming time for yourself—even in small ways—helps you show up more fully for your children. Whether it’s pursuing a hobby, learning something new, or connecting with a community, honoring who you are outside of parenting enriches not only your life but also the example you set for your kids

Tips for Balancing Personal Fulfillment and Parenthood:

• Pursue passions or hobbies that light you up—it sets an example for your kids that joy and curiosity matter.

• Remember that your drive and fulfillment ripple out to your family. When you’re inspired and happy, your children see what it means to live a full life.

I’ve felt the most checked out as a parent when I lost my sense of self and purpose. Rediscovering my own drive has been one of the greatest gifts I’ve given to my family.

5. Master Your Vision and Execution

Over time, I learned that balance is about presence and systems. It’s about structuring your week with intention, so you can fully show up for what matters most, whether with family, business, or personal passions.

One tool that helped me tremendously was the Passion Planner, which helped me break down my many visions into achievable steps. It’s not enough to have big dreams—you need systems that help you bring them to life.

Here’s what works for me:

• Prioritize Presence in the Moment: When I’m with my son after school, I make it a point to put the phone down and fully engage for 30 minutes to an hour at minimum—whether we’re playing, talking, cooking, or crafting. My mom is an art therapist and she shared that even 15 minutes of focused attention is better than hours of distracted engagement. Moments of undivided attention strengthen our bond and remind me why I’m doing everything I do. Similarly, when I’m immersed in business or music, I focus solely on the task at hand, trusting that giving my all in that moment makes me better in every area of my life.

• Time-Block for Your Priorities: I dedicate one full day a week solely to music, giving myself permission to create without distractions. During specific business hours, I’m fully present for my clients, team, and projects. Every evening I wind down with free music play. This structure ensures that everything important has its time, and I don’t feel like I’m constantly being pulled in a million directions.

• Give Yourself Grace: Even with a plan, some weeks won’t go perfectly—and that’s okay. Balance is about adjusting and realigning as needed, not sticking rigidly to a schedule.

When we show up fully in the moment—whether for our families, passions, or work—it creates deeper fulfillment and helps us navigate the balancing act with greater ease.

6. Give Back & Gain Perspective

One of the most transformative ways to find balance and purpose is through giving back. Volunteering your time or talents not only benefits others but also deepens your own understanding of the world and your role in it.

Richard Branson, known for his philanthropy, often emphasizes that making a difference is just as important as building success. Personally, my time spent volunteering with Olive Crest has been one of the most rewarding parts of my journey. It taught me empathy, widened my perspective, and grounded me during some of life’s most chaotic seasons.

• Use your unique skills to support causes you care about. For example, offer your expertise in marketing, design, or leadership to a nonprofit in need.

• If you’re strapped for time, consider micro-volunteering—short, impactful efforts like mentoring, fundraising, or even spending time with a friend in need.

Giving back reminds us that true balance isn’t just about what we accomplish for ourselves—it’s about how we uplift others.

The Journey: From Art to Adventure

Looking back, I see how each chapter of my life has added a new layer to my evolution as both an artist and a person. I started music early—piano at 4, violin at 8—and spent my teen years deep in classical drawing, oil painting, jewelry making, bookbinding, graphic design, and video art. Creativity wasn’t just an interest; it was my foundation.

But after college, I took an unexpected detour. I became a program director at a nonprofit, followed by a marketing director role in a for-profit company. At first, these roles felt at odds with my artistic identity. I wondered if I had to choose between being the free-spirited artist and the polished professional.

It wasn’t until I launched MRI Management in 2019, a 360 Marketing & Production Company, that I realized that two sides of me weren’t in conflict—they were complementary. The creativity I honed as an artist informs the innovation I bring to my business, while the structure and strategy I’ve learned as an entrepreneur have amplified my ability to create and connect as an artist.

Jekyll and Hyde: Reconciling the Layers

For years, I struggled with what felt like two competing identities. As an artist, I valued mystery, expression, and adventure. As a business owner, I had to show up polished, professional, and strategic. It felt like Jekyll and Hyde at times—two selves pulling in opposite directions.

But as I’ve grown, I learned to embrace the layers of who I am. And as a parent, I’ve found the kind of bond with my son that I never thought was possible. From moments like band practice with him strapped to my back to teaching him the value of creativity and perseverance, parenting has become one of the most fulfilling parts of my journey.

The Lesson: Embracing Complexity

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that identity doesn’t have to fit into a single box. The layers of who we are—artist, business owner, parent, dreamer—don’t conflict. They enhance one another. The creativity and resilience I’ve cultivated as an artist fuel my success in business. The strategy and grit I’ve learned as an entrepreneur amplify my ability to make meaningful art. And being a parent ties everything together, teaching me patience, adaptability, and the importance of being present.

The evolution of an artist is about losing yourself over and over, only to uncover deeper parts of who you are each time—it's in those moments of uncertainty that the most profound growth takes place.

The gaslighting from his supporters that “it was just an awkward gesture” is additionally alarming. For those of us who own a Tesla, admire Musk’s visionary ideas, or have followed his family’s story of grit and resilience, it’s disorienting. How do we, as parents, make sense of this moment for ourselves and our children, who might still see these figures as larger-than-life heroes?

Below are some reflections and strategies to guide a conversation with your kids—whether they’re old enough to scroll social media on their own or still need you to explain the headlines.

1. Acknowledge the Weight of Historical Trauma

Why Nazi Symbolism Hurts So Deeply
Nazi references aren’t just idle jokes; they point back to an era of genocide and hateful ideologies. Even if your family isn’t directly descended from survivors of the Holocaust, you likely understand how racism and xenophobia have shaped world history. As a Korean American, I’ve felt firsthand the sting of racism—and seeing a powerful figure trivialize hateful symbols opens old wounds.

How to Talk About It with Kids

• Younger Children: Explain simply, “Some signs and salutes come from a time when people were killed because of who they were. It’s never okay to make fun of that.”

• Teens: Dive deeper into historical context. Talk about how such gestures, even if passed off as a joke, can encourage those with racist beliefs to feel more comfortable spreading hate.

2. Understanding Gaslighting and Dismissal

Why It Feels Invalidating
Some people might say, “You’re too sensitive” or “It’s just an awkward gesture,” to make you doubt your own instincts—especially if this dismissal comes from someone you love or admire. This feeling, often called gaslighting, can be as hurtful as the original offense.

Doris Kearns Goodwin’s Masterclass on Presidential Leadership gripped me so deeply I sobbed through most of it. Her stories remind us of leaders who navigated division and crisis by staying true to a larger vision rather than chasing easy wins. Think of Abraham Lincoln striving to hold the Union together amid civil war, or Franklin D. Roosevelt guiding America through the Great Depression. They had every reason to yield to fear or sensationalism—yet they chose a steadier path. Their leadership demonstrated that commitment to long-range solutions outperforms short-term theatrics every time.

I hold onto this belief: our nation maintains deep waters, even when the headlines scream otherwise.

We live in an era when outrage can seem like currency. Every day, platforms serve up some new scandal or sensational headline designed to make us click, react, and share. In business, the same temptation is everywhere: a flashy marketing stunt, an inflammatory social media post, or an alarmist headline can drive short-term engagement. But real impact—the kind that transforms industries and communities—requires something deeper: leadership, focus, and vision that rise above the noise.

A Culture of Outrage

It’s no secret that many of the most successful social media posts today rely on stoking anger or fear. This “outrage economy” has also bled into corporate culture: businesses sometimes exploit drama to stay relevant. Yet clickbait rarely generates long-term success, nor does it foster genuine trust. Instead, it can erode credibility. When everything is a crisis, nothing is. The audience eventually grows numb—or worse, they walk away.

Why Focus Matters More Than Ever

Understanding that the 2020s are unprecedented in their divisiveness is illuminating—but also checks 💯. It’s a perspective you gain only by living through generations or studying history with depth, as Goodwin has.

The brain reflects what it consumes. A generation raised on trashy reality TV, true crime podcasts, and violent video games shouldn’t be shocked when school shootings or shock value leadership becomes a daily occurrence - in fact, the new 2025 U.S. President rose to fame through the shallow theatrics of a reality show built on conflict and the catchphrase “you’re fired.” He came to lead a nation increasingly polarized by performative outrage. His rise reflects a culture that rewards spectacle over substance—we’ve traded depth and humanity for a fixation on drama and division.

Our cultural diet shapes us. Now, with bite-sized rage bait and performative outrage dominating social media, our understanding of the world has become dangerously shallow. But here’s the paradox: perhaps this very divisiveness, this collective exhaustion from hysteria, will be what finally forces us to seek something deeper.

For business leaders aiming to build something that truly lasts, there’s a more sustainable model. Focus is the antidote to distraction. It requires:

• Clarity of Purpose: Defining a mission that goes beyond profits—whether it’s environmental sustainability, social impact, or ethical innovation.

• Disciplined Strategy: Setting measurable goals and avoiding the siren call of viral stunts that don’t align with your core values.

With AI, technology, and a growing awareness of global issues, many of us can see we’re on the verge of something transformative. However, what many people see as chaos, I now view as the birthing pains of a new world. It’s changed how I approach everything—including the news. Instead of despair, I see the signs of a pivotal moments in history. Take today’s news: China surrounds Taiwan, Israel goes on a year of war, N. Korea blows up a road that connects to the South - these crises that could easily be taken as doom, are now for me, a part of a greater shift.

Exactly 10 years ago, when I birthed my 9 lb 5 oz son on my knees at home beside my midwife, I had to keep believing he would come. After 12 hours of labor, with his heart rate dropping at times, my midwife having to turn him manually, and the looming possibility of a hospital transfer and c-section, I had to recommit to myself that my son would soon arrive safely, and I would hold him in my arms, sound and secure. It was hardest toward the end—my body crowned, making way for my beloved son’s head, and a final push seemed to never come. But it eventually did, and with it, the aches of labor without pain meds vanished in an instant.

I learned a deep message then: when the world feels like it’s closing in and progress seems impossible, the breakthrough is often just beyond the hardest moment. It taught me that belief isn’t just a passive hope—it’s an active commitment to see through the chaos, to endure the discomfort, and to trust in the process. This is the same belief I hold now about the future of our world: the labor of change may be painful, but it’s preparing us for something greater. Peace, like birth, is not easy, but it is inevitable if we’re willing to push through the darkest moments and trust in the promise of what’s to come.

I used to feel crushed by the world’s disparities. I’ve had more than enough money at times. I lived in million dollar homes. I was surrounded every day by loving family and friends. I had all the outward signs of success—yet I couldn’t shake the despair of feeling guilty for having so much while others struggled with so little.

Now, instead of being paralyzed by that guilt, I’ve come to find peace in abundance. I see it as a chance to co-create a future where everyone has enough. I think about the journey my grandparents took during the Korean War and how they traveled by boat from the North to the South. They didn’t leave their homes because they were needy. They were forced to because of war. In fact, they were well off from running a soy sauce factory - my grandmother never wore the same clothes twice pre-war. Guests at their estate would get lost trying to make their way out because it was so large. Yet after the war, they had only one pair of socks per family member, washing and drying them daily to get by. Their story reminds me that abundance has always existed—it’s bridges for understanding, peace, and better distribution that we need to unlock it for everyone.

Peace isn’t just an ideal—it’s a daily commitment. I’m in it till I help push this baby out. I hope whoever reads this might be inspired to as well.

Since my teens, one question has quietly trailed me wherever I went: “What is eternal life?” I first sought answers in the pages of Daniel, Ecclesiastes, and Revelation—books that seemed to hold coded messages about the end of the world. Growing up in a conservative Christian family, I spent countless nights in fervent prayer and worship, believing we needed to “usher in” the End Times.

The songs of Misty Edwards became my soundtrack. At 16, I learned to sing simply so I could lead worship for hours on end—sometimes all night, in youth lock-ins, believing every chord and lyric was hastening heaven’s arrival. Yet over time, a haunting contradiction emerged: If God saves some from destruction, why do others seemingly remain in hellish conditions right here, right now? The grim realities I witnessed—like homelessness on the streets of Downtown Los Angeles—only deepened my questions. If there truly were a “damnation,” it looked all too real in the eyes of those suffering on cold sidewalks beneath the glow of multi-million-dollar condos.

As my understanding of “eternity” began to break from the mold of linear dogma, a peculiar creature captured my imagination: Turritopsis dohrnii, the so-called “immortal jellyfish.”

Rather than dying, it reverts to a younger stage of its lifecycle, effectively renewing itself indefinitely. This tiny marvel nudged me to think differently about what “eternal” might mean. Could it be less about a never-ending timeline and more about continuous renewal—an ongoing process of transformation rather than a one-time event?

Rethinking “End Times” and Breaking Destructive Cycles

Suddenly, even my understanding of biblical prophecy began to shift. What if “End Times” scriptures aren’t offering a fixed fate but a wake-up call, urging us to avoid destructive patterns? Instead of waiting for an apocalyptic finish, we might consider these passages as invitations to change course, to create new systems that steer us away from literal or metaphorical doom. This makes much sense when you consider the modern Christian Church takes much of the Old Testament as metaphors or symbolism - why isn’t the New Testament treated in the same way?

This perspective resonates powerfully in the business world. Whether we like it or not, our economic models have often been linear and exploitative—extract resources, produce, profit, discard. Yet just as the jellyfish shows us a more cyclical form of life, there’s a call for regenerative practices that break those old, destructive cycles. Such an approach can feel like the embodiment of the biblical principle of stewardship—caring for people and the planet as gifts entrusted to us, rather than commodities to be used up.

Why Business Matters: Seeking First the “Kingdom Mindset”

One of the most quoted teachings of Jesus is “Seek first the kingdom of God” (Matthew 6:33). Many interpret this as an abstract, purely spiritual concept, but what if it applies to everyday enterprises too? A kingdom mindset in business means looking beyond short-term profit to the well-being of employees, communities, and the environment.

It’s a perspective shift—a movement from scarcity to abundance, from competition to collaboration. It’s recognizing that the divine economy is not about hoarding or fear but about multiplying resources in a way that benefits everyone. In that sense, business can become an arena for “eternal life” in action—a place where renewal happens as we reinvest in local communities, adopt sustainable methods, and innovate solutions that heal rather than harm.

Eternal Mindset: Embracing Continuous Renewal

Just as I once believed we needed to “usher in” God’s presence through worship, we now have the chance to usher in renewal through how we conduct business. An eternal mindset in this sense is not merely about personal salvation; it’s about seeing every resource—human, financial, or natural—as part of a larger, continuous cycle. Our responsibility then becomes fostering that cycle’s health and longevity rather than exhausting it.

• Ethical Supply Chains: Imagine sourcing materials in a way that honors local farmers or miners, ensuring they receive fair wages and safe working conditions.

• Sustainable Production: Much like the jellyfish resetting to its polyp state, we can design products to be disassembled, reused, or recycled—turning waste into a resource.

• Employee Well-Being: Prioritizing mental health, growth opportunities, and work-life balance helps each team member “renew” themselves daily, instead of burning out.

The Regenerative Enterprise: Co-Creating Heaven on Earth

In biblical texts, we often see the phrase “on earth as it is in heaven.” While once I might have interpreted this purely as a prayer for a future utopia, now I see it as a directive for our shared present. If Turritopsis dohrnii displays a model of life that keeps regenerating, perhaps our enterprises can reflect that too—constantly reinventing, healing, and nurturing rather than depleting.

A regenerative enterprise might look like a company that invests in the community infrastructure, builds eco-friendly facilities, and partners with social initiatives that break cycles of poverty. It’s a vision of co-creation, where employees, leadership, and stakeholders collaborate to envision a reality that benefits all. In this sense, the lines between “secular” and “sacred” blur; business becomes a domain where we can tangibly participate in redemption and renewal.

Creating Lasting Impact: Where Peace Feels Possible

For a time, I wrestled with the idea of world peace. Could it be real? Or was it just a sentimental notion? Now, I see that peace starts in the choices we make daily—how we buy, sell, invest, and collaborate. When organizations choose fairness, sustainability, and generosity, they become microcosms of a renewed world.

No, it may not be easy. But the alternative—continuing on the same destructive path—feels infinitely more impossible. As Jesus said, “No one puts new wine into old wineskins” (Mark 2:22). Old containers burst under new possibilities. We must reinvent the containers themselves—in this case, our business models, economic assumptions, and leadership frameworks—to hold the promise of real change.

Conclusion: We Get to Choose Our Future

My journey from worship-driven teenager to questioning adult hasn’t stripped away my faith; it’s reoriented it. I see that eternal life might not be a one-dimensional line stretching out forever but rather a continuous loop of renewal, just like our immortal jellyfish friend. And for me, it’s an invitation to shape the future in every sphere I touch—especially in business.

Leaving the church at 19 was a big moment for me. I decided that the only thing I could believe in was what I could experience with my five senses. It felt safe, controlled, and good for my mental health at the time. But eventually, that way of living started to feel…limiting. I found myself bouncing from one pre-written script to the next—do I become an influencer? Do I build a business? Do I dive headfirst into music? I toiled over these questions constantly, and it took years for the answer to finally emerge.

Now, I see my life with so much more clarity. Every twist and turn was necessary, and none of it was wasted. I’ve learned to trust this journey—this complex, winding path—and see it as the training ground for what’s next. My purpose is clearer now than it’s ever been: to maintain radical hope for a world that is moving toward peace.

In the last few months, I’ve started to see a new way of thinking about my journey. After watching Richard Branson Teaches Disruptive Entrepreneurship on Masterclass, I learned that his emphasis on adventure, grit, and problem-solving has opened a new lens through which I now view my own path. His willingness to take bold risks and tackle challenges head-on—whether in business or in his philanthropy with The Elders (founded by Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu) reminds me that life isn’t a straight shot toward a single destination. It’s a series of opportunities to disrupt, grow, and learn, and the more uncertainty I face, the more clarity I gain.

With time, I’ve come to embrace the belief that instead of looking for one clear-cut identity or title to define myself, the real growth happens when I allow myself to embrace all of who I am. Mastering this balancing act—between the roles of mother, artist, and business owner—has become less about choosing one and more about weaving all these experiences together. I've learned that each role doesn't need to compete for space; it can be interwoven, creating a life that’s richer, fuller, and far more complex than I ever imagined.

It’s through this interconnectedness that I’m able to bring new depth to each role, transforming them into a living expression of the work I am called to do.

We’ve been living together for the past four months, a temporary situation to save money while the TV and Film industry hit a standstill. But, oddly enough, this time has become sacred. My brother and I, despite a 6-year gap and lives lived in parallel, are finally bonding in ways we never had before. Over the years we’ve had some really hard moments - tears, arguments, an inability to understand each other. It wasn’t until I used ChatGPT to read between the harsh texts and messages - there, I found that it wasn’t what was being said that I had to respond to, but rather the heart of each matter. We’ve been healing from past fractures and it’s been unbelievably rewarding. There's something profound about shared meals, laughter, and simply being together after so many years apart.

In this moment, I’m in bliss. I’m 36, going on 37, and honestly, never fathomed getting here. I never imagined marriage, divorce, remarriage, motherhood, or even building a career. I used to float, fitting into molds grasping at whatever identity I could wear at the time. But now, sitting here, surrounded by family, I realize how these connections have helped me ground myself, and how this complex, often messy web of life has prepared me for the next chapter. This is my foundation—these small, yet monumental, moments.

I’m an artist, a mother, a wife, and someone who’s spent years trying to figure it all out—family, work, identity. I’ve had ups and downs, doubts, and a lot of soul-searching, but right now, I’m in a place of bliss. I want to share what’s been going on in my life—what I’m learning, what’s challenging, what’s exciting.
